Simon Patchett, getting after it; on his 5’6 Quadkumber model.  Grab rail cutback in Sumatra. Generally speaking, Patchy has pushed the Quadkumber further and harder than I really expected.

We’re working on a collab with our friend Yuta Koide of Shakastics.  Here’s Oden, further-familiarizing himself with Yuta’s work.  Prototype should be available for viewing very soon.

New Almond Logo // Recently Refined by Cam Oden

We made some slight updates to our logo, for 2013, as you may have noticed. Cameron Oden has been getting better and better at design-related projects. He bravely tackled the task of updating our beloved board lam logo. Maintaining the shape was the biggest thing for me, since it’s recognizable from a distance. With that shape as his canvas, Cam got to work refining a logo that I had done back in 2007 (with very limited design skills).  We’re thrilled to unveil the new Almond logo… the first batch of surfboards with this lam are going through The Waterman’s Guild this week.

9’2 Pinwheel // Refined for 2013

We have made some slight refinements to the Pinwheel model for 2013.  We’re doing them a little more foiled than we have been doing them previously.  We’ve also bumped down the length a bit.  We’re now focusing the Pinwheel on more of the 8’8 to 9’4 range… with more of an emphasis on a lively surfing than logging and noseriding.  Alex Swanson just got an 8’8, and from what I hear, he’s been having a blast on it at Church.  I really want to get that board in a running wave like Church or Cottons… maybe good Huntington.  Photos: Oden

That’s Super (8-footage) // Chad Cress

Chad Cress bought a super 8 camera off eBay, partially because everyone is fascinated with true film, partially because the camera itself looks cool.  He and Aaron Cervantes went and shot at a secret spot, known to locals as the Huntington Beach Pier.  Aaron was having his first go on his 5’6 Quadkumber, and Chad was having his first go with his super 8 camera… but you’d never know it.  Good work, lads.

New Model for 2013 // The Survey

We’re pleased to introduce the newest surfboard to the Almond lineup, The Survey.  This fin setup may come as a surprise to some, but it shouldn’t.  You can’t preach “surf everything except for surfboards with three fins.”  The longstanding stigma of the thruster setup being the most elitist of the fin setups is long gone… I think it’s time we forgive the thruster and let him back into the club.  Fuller outline, foiled rails, rounded tail, single to double concave, three fins. Custom thruster for Mr. Blacksheep, Thomas VanMelum.  Many might be surprised to know Thomas surfs with a board also.  This is a remake, of sorts, of a board we did for Thomas a few years ago.  Griffin had a few tweaks he wanted to make to the second generation version.  If you’re thinking “who is this Thomas guy…?”  Watch this.

We made a few of these 100% wool blankets for the cold nights and mornings here in California. Made of wool from one of the oldest mills in the US and sewed up here in California. These 15 oz. wool blankets are not too heavy and are perfect for beach bonfires, camping, or staying warm at home. Only eight were made for now… so email jeff@lifeisjustswell.com if you would like one. ($100)
